A healed tattoo is a team effort. Follow these guidelines to keep your piece looking the way we intended for years to come.
If you do not have Saniderm, leave the initial bandage on for the time frame your artist recommended. When you take it off, wash your hands, then gently clean the tattoo with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free soap. Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not rub.
Saniderm is a clear, breathable adhesive bandage that stays on for a few days. Some fluid and ink will collect under it, which is normal. Leave it on for the time frame your artist gave you, usually three to five days, then peel it off slowly in a warm shower, pulling it back on itself rather than straight up. Wash the tattoo, pat it dry, and move on to regular aftercare. If the seal breaks, water gets underneath, or the skin around it gets itchy or irritated, take it off early, wash the tattoo, and let it air heal.
Wash the tattoo two to three times a day and apply a thin layer of a fragrance-free healing ointment or lotion. Less is more, and the skin needs air to heal. Expect some peeling, flaking, and light itching. Do not pick or scratch.
No swimming, soaking, saunas, or hot tubs for at least two weeks. Keep the tattoo out of direct sunlight while it heals, and skip the gym or heavy sweating for the first few days. Wear loose, clean clothing over the area.
Once fully healed, sunscreen is the single best thing you can do for your tattoo. UV exposure fades ink faster than anything else. Keep your skin moisturized and it will keep looking sharp for years to come.
A little redness, swelling, and warmth in the first few days is normal. If you notice spreading redness, pus, a fever, or anything that feels off, contact us and see a doctor. We're always happy to check in on a heal.
